Hair Bow Organizer

My sister just had a baby girl and with our baby girl on her way we decided to make a chicken wire hair bow holder. This is not a new concept, but one that I have been dying to do.

Items Needed:

Picture Frame

Primer

Spray Paint - Color of your choice

Chicken Wire (bought a roll at Home Depot for $6.00 and we didn’t even use half of it for two frames)

Staple Gun and Staples

Wire Cutters

Glue Gun

Biased Tape/Felt

We started off thrift store shopping in search of the perfect picture frame for cheap. We went to about 4 before finding everything we wanted, but it was so worth it. I of course forgot to take before pictures, but my frame, was black and housed this:

I got my frame for $9.99 and my sister got hers for $5.99 and a very nice lady in front of us gave us a 20% off coupon so it was actually less than that. (I had no idea Goodwill had coupons!)

Then we took out the glass and artwork and washed our frames with dish soap and water. I wanted to try to get rid of all the grease and dirt. Once they were clean and dry we primer-ed one coat of white primer and then painted a few coats of our color of choice. I used Catalina Mist by Krylon and I can only find it at Hobby Lobby.

It then took 3 of us to get the chicken wire onto the back of the frame – 2 to stretch it while the 3rd stapled. We then took a hammer and gently hammered the staples to ensure they were in all the way. {I used a T-50 staple gun and 1/2” staples}

Once stapled on we used wire cutters to trim the wire.

Then I got my hot glue gun out and glued bias tape across the back to keep the wire from scratching the wall.

I also glued felt onto the corners just to double ensure no scratching.

And this was what we got:

And of course I immediately added all my hair bows. I obviously need to get busy and make more, but at least baby girl has a few.

I originally wasn’t going for a distressed look but after having it flipped upside down while stapling and hammering some of the paint naturally chipped showing some black and I LOVE it! so I took my fingernail and scraped off some more. Gotta love those unplanned finishing touches that make it look better!

I am dying to hang it up on the wall, but I need to get everything arranged and curtains made before I start putting holes in the wall.

And here is my sister’s:

She hung hers with the 3M command hooks. Smart move sis!
