furniture anxiety attack averted

Guess who no longer has to have anxiety attacks over the baby’s furniture!? One of our friends has a paint sprayer and offered his Saturday to show Ryan how to use it. That meant I had to go to Home Depot sicker than a dog to pick out a paint color and I swear everyone in that store was staring at the coughing sick mess I was. I went with Eloquent Pearl by Glidden. Don’t ask me what kind of paint they used because I have since taken my medicine that knocks me out, but I do know they had to mix it with lacquer and the total makeover cost was just under $40! It literally only took them about 1.5 hours from start to finish (and that includes moving furniture, taping…etc) I HATED having to watch from inside, but the fumes were really strong. However, I couldn’t be any happier with the outcome! I must get my self a paint sprayer!

Isn’t it so creamy and yummy?

We were told they will need a full week to cure. Boo! And then I may attempt to glaze them, but a week is a long time to wait! And thanks to the weather the furniture is now sitting in my kitchen. I want it in the baby’s room now! Anyhow, back to the glazing… should I or shouldn’t I? I almost feel it’s too stark (off)white and needs dimension… but the other part of me just wants it in her room ready to go! And I have never glazed before so I am a little apprehensive.

We also got the nursery painted. That is a tragic story… Ryan had a day off work so he decided he would paint her room. We went to Home Depot and picked out a color. It was a hard decision. I have had the hardest time picking colors and I am blaming it on pregnancy. But I picked a nice warm, dark tan. And I honestly don’t even remember the color and have purposely put that in the past. Ryan started painting over the nasty hot pink and green walls and our paint color is 3 shades darker than the swatch and a baby poop green! We figured it might just be the hot green and pink reflecting onto the new paint and let the first coat dry. Those stubborn colors were still showing through even though we bought a paint with primer and it was still a disgusting shade of green/brown. I may or may not have had a small breakdown and cried hysterically over it. So I went to work the next day and Ryan experimented by mixing white paint into our baby poo paint. When I got home from work her room was completely painted a lovely shade of tan. It’s still nowhere near the color I want, but we had already paid for it and it has grown on me. And since the furniture is so light and will take up a huge chunk of the room I have decided to deal with it. I have also become very leery about the paint guys at Home Depot. Not once have they mixed the right color for me! I might start paying more and going with Sherwin Williams or something.

This is before we moved in and cleaned. Who paints a nursery this color? It is so bright it gave me a headache just walking in the room!

And after:

This room gets a lot of light and each wall looks a completely different shade of tan during different times of the day.

The next step is to clean and purge since her room has become the dumping place and Ryan’s office. So I will be MIA hopefully because I am cleaning, but I have a feeling I am not quite over being sick just yet.

*Post Edit - I cant believe I forgot to mention where I got the furniture! My mom had a baby when I was 15... my youngest sibling at the time was 10, so we didn't have baby stuff. They splurged and bought nice furniture when she was born. And it's probably a good thing since they ended up having one more after her. :) I had hoarded the furniture in our tiny UT apartment for 4 years and during the infertility process there were many times I told Ryan to throw it away. Looking at it depressed me. But I was more than happy to see it when we moved into our house and was expecting! So a HUGE shout out to my baby sisters for being born and my parents splurging on the babies!

Glad you found a way to deal with the color. I feel I have been a wreck the last week and I can't blame it on pregnancy:(

Congrats on your pregnancy! I stumbled upon your blog through someone else's... I knew from your backyard that you had to live in AZ too! I'm a BYU fan and my husband will have nothing to do with it. I hope you are feeling better! I went to the doctor yesterday and found out that I have bronchitis. It's not fun at all and must be way worse if you add pregnancy on top of it. Anyway, I love your designs and can't wait to see the finished nursery!
